This book has been around and quite popular for some time. However, I had no desire to read it until I saw the coming attractions for the movie. If there's a movie I want to see that's a book, I HAVE to read the book first, because the book is always better.
For those of you who don't know what the book is about, it's about a 14 year old girl who is raped and murdered. Pretty much the entire story is told from heaven as she looks down on her family and friends. The unsolved murder of their daughter and sister really tears the Salmon family apart and Susie (the main character) discovers that maybe they can't let her go, unless she lets them go.
I literally cried out loud at certain points during this book. The first chapter is incredibly difficult to read as it's about Susie's rape and murder and at some points the book comes to a lull and you just want to get to a "good part", but PLEASE keep reading. The last three chapters I just finished last night and my eyes woke up puffy, that's how much I cried. It was such a beautiful story and written so elonquently, I recommend this to EVERYONE. I'm forcing my boyfriend to read it!

I started reading this & I gave up after 80 pages or so..it just didn't seem to be going anywhere. I think I may have to pick this up again!
ReplyDeleteit was hard for me to read it seemed to never end i guess.. but your right at the end i cried. when she danced her g-pa in heaven i had to put the books down.
ReplyDeletewhen i thought about it i cried. i mean she went thru rape and murder and yet she was in heaven ...she was soo lucky she where everybody wants to be. its crazy.

ReplyDeleteAww...I read this book many years ago, shortly after it came out because it was a hit with "literary" types, like the cool, artsy kids/people, but I didn't love it like I thought or was hoping I would. I still have it though so I might have to read it again. I think it had its good parts but it just wasn't a personal favorite of mine. Thanks for the review!
Girl I am the same way, I tend to only read books when I see someone else raving about it or if a movie is coming out.
